Can centralized exchanges still dominate the next wave of crypto adoption, or is the future shifting toward a hybrid ecosystem?
As DeFi, AI, RWA, and new trading products continue to evolve, the crypto industry is entering a more diverse and interconnected phase. Centralized exchanges still hold strong advantages in liquidity, user base, and infrastructure, but user expectations, trading behaviors, and the drivers of industry growth are changing rapidly.
In this Echobit AMA, our guests discussed the future of exchanges, the convergence of CEX and DeFi, community growth, KOL partnerships, and the key drivers that could bring the next wave of users into crypto.
Q1 | What do users value most when choosing an exchange today, and which factor will matter most in the years ahead?
Labi of Web3|Labi: Security Is the Baseline; Products and Ecosystem Define Long-Term Competitiveness
Users often cite security as their top priority when choosing an exchange, but in practice, liquidity and product innovation are often the factors that truly influence user decisions and long-term retention. Security is becoming a baseline requirement for any credible exchange, while deep liquidity directly determines the quality of the trading experience. At the same time, innovative products such as copy trading, on-chain analytics, and AI-powered trading tools can provide the differentiation needed to attract and retain users.
Beyond products and trading experience, community will also play an increasingly important role in user retention. Users do not want to feel like they are simply another number on a platform; they want to participate, interact, and build a deeper connection with the ecosystem. As the industry matures, security and liquidity will increasingly become table stakes, while the real competition will shift toward ecosystem depth, product innovation, and the sense of participation and ownership users feel toward a platform.
Q2 | With the rapid growth of DeFi, copy trading, and AI-powered trading tools, how can centralized exchanges remain competitive?
Ditto Network|Ditto Network: From Trading Venues to Integrated Financial Gateways
Centralized exchanges will continue to play an important role in crypto, but the CEX of the future cannot remain simply a place for users to trade. As user expectations evolve, exchanges need to combine user-friendly UX, deep liquidity, and fiat on-ramps with access to DeFi, AI-driven strategies, and other emerging financial applications.
The most competitive exchanges will increasingly serve as a secure execution layer connecting different parts of the crypto ecosystem. Users should have greater freedom to access and choose different products, while exchanges must continue to provide appropriate security measures and risk controls. The future of CEX is therefore not about competing against DeFi or AI, but about integrating these technologies into a safer, simpler, and more comprehensive user experience.
Q3 | Many projects struggle to build active trading communities after launch. What drives long-term engagement instead of short-term hype?
Arnas|Arnas: Real Utility Is the Foundation of Sustainable Community Growth
Projects that want to build lasting communities need to give users reasons to engage beyond price speculation. If users only show up around token launches, price rallies, or major campaigns, it becomes difficult to establish a sustainable user base. Products and experiences such as staking, gaming, and prediction markets can create genuine use cases that give users reasons to keep returning to the ecosystem.
On-chain data also suggests that consistent daily active users are more effective at supporting sustainable liquidity than short-term spikes around token events. This makes community trust equally important. Transparent communication from project founders, especially during difficult periods, can help strengthen trust and prevent users from feeling like they are simply being used as exit liquidity.
Ultimately, sustainable trading volume is not something a project can simply manufacture. It is an outcome of trust, product utility, and community connection. Building these foundations may be harder than creating a short-term narrative, but they are also much more difficult for competitors or market cycles to take away.
Q4 | Affiliate and KOL partnerships have become major growth channels for exchanges. What makes a partnership truly successful?
Labi of Web3|Labi: Genuine Trust Matters More Than Follower Count
Failed KOL-project collaborations often follow the same pattern: the project gains few real users, the KOL loses credibility, and the audience feels like they are simply being marketed to. A successful partnership therefore needs to start with genuine alignment and long-term trust. KOLs should truly believe in the products they promote and communicate with their audiences authentically rather than simply publishing promotional content.
For exchanges, this also means looking beyond follower counts. Smaller, highly focused, crypto-native KOLs with strong community trust can often deliver more meaningful users than accounts with large but less relevant audiences. The metrics that matter most are therefore genuine engagement, trust, audience relevance, and actual user conversion.
Creators also need to protect their long-term credibility. Promoting products they do not genuinely believe in for short-term financial gain can undermine years of accumulated trust. The most effective partnerships should go beyond a single promotional post and involve KOLs in the community, allowing them to engage with users, provide product feedback, and serve as a bridge between the project and its audience. When projects, creators, and users are genuinely connected, KOL partnerships can evolve from short-term exposure into sustainable growth.
Q5 | Looking ahead to the next bull market, what will be the biggest catalyst for bringing millions of new users into crypto?
Arnas|Arnas: The Real Catalyst for the Next Wave of Crypto Adoption
The biggest catalyst for the next wave of crypto adoption may not be Bitcoin reaching new highs or another wave of meme-coin speculation. Instead, it could come from crypto products becoming invisible, intuitive, and genuinely useful in everyday life. Stablecoin payments and asset tokenization, for example, could move crypto beyond investment and into payments, asset management, and everyday financial applications, creating a much broader path toward mainstream adoption.
At the same time, clearer regulation can give institutions greater confidence to enter the market, while AI can significantly lower the barriers for new users. Complex wallets, blockchain transactions, and unfamiliar infrastructure remain major obstacles for mainstream adoption. If AI can abstract away much of that complexity and make crypto easier to use, the industry can potentially reach a much wider audience.
This shift will also change how exchanges compete. Instead of focusing primarily on listing tokens faster, exchanges will need to prioritize simpler onboarding and funding, stronger security, better customer support, and localized payment methods. The next generation of users should not enter crypto simply because of market hype or FOMO. They will stay because crypto products become genuinely easier and more convenient to use than traditional financial services.
